Having been a student of Iyengar Yoga for over fifteen years (and previously a dance teacher), I very quickly became hooked on yoga and soon realised the benefits to my own health and well-being. So, with a clear direction and a strong passion for Iyengar Yoga, I decided to train as a yoga teacher under the guidance of Kirsten and Richard Agar-Ward, at Bath Iyengar Yoga Centre. And after completing a two-year intensive training course, I qualified to teach in 2015 and recently progressed further, passing Junior Intermediate 1 in 2018.
But my learning doesn’t stop there, I regularly attend classes with my own senior teacher, as well as training days, yoga intensives and the annual Iyengar Yoga convention, which has included learning from B.K.S Iyengar’s grand-daughter, Abhijata.
What is Iyengar Yoga?
The asanas (or poses) are very precise and as your Iyengar Yoga teacher I will help you to focus on the correct alignment of the body. Classes generally start with simple poses and gradually work towards harder, more intense poses to benefit your own flexibility, strength and wellbeing, ending with some relaxation which sometimes includes breathing techniques.
The immediate benefits of yoga are greater flexibility and strength, and better physical health. And as you continue with your practice, you will also start to feel the psychological and spiritual benefits too.
